Luis brings a wealth of experience in nonprofit management, organizational development, and higher education administration. Luis’s proficiency encompasses a variety of crucial areas such as change management, creation of DEI policies, performance management, fostering employee engagement, and enacting training and development programs.
Prior to joining the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation Luis served as the Executive Director of Human Resources at One Million Degrees (OMD) overseeing all human capital work which included training staff, enhancing employee relations, administering compensation and benefits, and supporting organization development. During Luis’s tenure as the head of HR, he achieved remarkable growth for the organization. Under his guidance, the organization expanded significantly and doubled in size. His strategic leadership played a pivotal role in driving this impressive organizational growth. Before OMD, he worked in the Human Resources Department at Wilbur Wright College, and later transitioned to the Office of Instruction, where he was the Director of Student Support Services.
Luis is deeply passionate about policies centered on affordable housing, higher education access, climate change, and immigration reform. His commitment to these issues is evident in his volunteer work across multiple nonprofits in Chicago and his service on the board of directors for MOSAIC Educational and Arts Program in Greenville, South Carolina.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Furman University and a master’s degree in Public Administration from DePaul University. Luis has a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification. He is a Chicago based ceramist, creating beautiful pottery that reflects his artistic sensibilities. He enjoys traveling domestically and internationally which allows him to explore diverse cultures and gain new perspectives.
