Charles T. Angell
Charles’ early career was spent in international banking, then joined Newly Weds Foods in 1965. He formally assumed the Presidency from his father Paul M. Angell in 1974 and began to expand the company’s food coatings portfolio as a means of demonstrating industry leadership and achieving the company’s true potential. One very significant contribution in this area under Charles Angell’s direction was Newly Weds’ introduction of Japanese style bread crumb (Panko) technology to the United States in 1977. Charles also set his and the company’s sights on extending geographic reach. He implemented a global expansion strategy, establishing a business presence in Europe, Asia, India, Australia, and the Middle East. He also oversaw the addition of seasonings, sauces and food safety/functional ingredients to the company’s product manufacturing capabilities. From 1974 to today under Charles’ leadership, Newly Weds Foods has grown from one batter & breading plant in Chicago to one of the largest food ingredient companies in the world with 29 plants supporting customers in more than 90 countries.
Beyond business, Charles’ desire to help those less fortunate has seen him become a significant benefactor to a number of different charitable and civic organizations throughout his life. In 2011, he was inspired to start the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation to honor his father who embodied the utmost compassion for others.
